Bathroom Ideas - A bathroom for children

A child friendly bathroom
A bathroom is the place where our children learn how to look after themselves and acquire the basic hygienic routine. So let`s make sure that the bathroom used by our offsprings is cosy, clean and safe.
A well planned bathroom for children is something more than just a toilet paper with a butterfly pattern on it or towels with a colourful print.

Safety in the first place.
We need to see that if our child uses a bathroom without any help, it is not a risky place to enter. Cleaning products may be dangerous for our little ones- they may spill them or even worse, swallow them. Thus they need to be put away somewhere safe, away form those little hands. The best thing to do is to keep all of them in one place, separated from that part of the bathroom that we use. Let`s have one shelf designed for that purpose and explain to our child that it is dangerous to touch anything from that shelf.
We can also mark those places using colourful stickers and symbols that our child understands ( i.e. we can use a pirates flag on condition that the child knows what it means). Our offsprings must feel completely safe in the bathroom, thus we have to make sure that nothing is going to fall down on those little heads when they are in the bathroom. Different types of blockades are very useful: on the cabinet doors, drawers. It is essential that all sharp endings of all bathroom appliances are covered; or we can have furnishings which have round ends so that our children won`t hurt themselves.
It is vital that our bathroom door have a lock on the outside so that our child won`t lock itself inside.

Colourful and fabulously
If we are certain that our child is safe in the bathroom, we can concentrate on comfort and beauty of the interior. A nice and joyful bathroom will make our offsprings enjoy their routine there.
As far as décor is concerned we have to combine functionality and play. The interior should be warm and cosy. The choice of colour is up to you, but moderation is the basic rule A colourful interior doesn`t have to be bright. Using a bathroom with red wall tiles and smurfs wall paper only distracts the children. It is essential that our child feels comfty and concentrates on the bathroom activites as well. We should choose one leading colour and complement it with a contrasting colour or a different shade. It is good to choose light ,universal colours because it is easier to choose colourful accessories. The same rule applies when the children are the only users of the bathroom. We should avoid wall papers or wall tiles with story paintings. A young teenager won`t be happy to use a bathroom with Winnie the Pooh all over it. It is easier to change the accessories than re-plaster the walls. Thus we had better focus on accessories which can be easily changed for more grown up ones when our child is bored with the old décor.
Let`s focus our attention on jolly towels, hangers and bathroom mats. The best option is to engage our child in decorating the bathroom with us i.e. choosing the colour.

Individual style
We can decorate our bathroom with lovely framed family photographs or pictures of our favourite characters , or animals in order to create a cosy interior. We can have a special shelf for our treasures brought from family trips- shells, dried fruit or flowers.

It will be nice to put a wicker (or a plastic ) basket in the corner, filled with bath toys or colourful books with "bathroom poems". It is good to put here some bath and wash cosmetics for children. It is important that each child has its own staff.

Light plays an essential part in the bathroom décor. If we want our bathroom to be nice and pleasant, it can not be too sharp. The best is soft and diffused light so that reading poems for children is not a problem for us. Light can be used to expose some parts of bathroom decoration.

Child friendly dimensions
Children, especially little ones, have difficulties in using "grown up" appliances. Sometimes it can be even dangerous and the presence of an adult is required. What is more, it does not help a child become self-dependent.
That`s why, if we have an opportunity, we should get bathroom furnishings for children. New bathroom appliances Nova Top Junior have been especially designed for children. A small wash basin and toilet with a colourful seat have been made so that children can use it without any difficulties. A toilet, which is 33 cm high, enables a few year old children to use it. Besides its size ensures safety, there is no risk of falling into the toilet. Those appliances have been made from safe materials which are not a danger for children. We can design a bathroom for our children, using warm and joyful accessories of Nova Top Junior, which our offsprings will be delighted to use.
